MUA eye shadow palettes are renowned for their economical prices and good color pay off. Here is our take on the MUA Going For Gold Eyeshadow Palette.
The Brand Claims:
To celebrate the much anticipated 2012 London Olympics, MUA has introduced the champion of all make-up palettes, a limited edition Going For Gold Palette! Made up of 10 fabulously shimmering eye shadow shades in the new square pans, MUA urges you to get in the winning mood and go uber glamorous to cheer on your team. Whether you are going for a subtle highlighting effect or attention-grabbing statement eyes, you will be sure to dazzle with the Olympians.
My Experience:
MUA Going For Gold Eyeshadow Palette was launched specifically for the 2012 Olympics that were held in London. It comes in a flimsy rectangular packaging with a transparent lid. Even though the shades have not been named individually, they are labelled on the back of the palette respectively from 1 to 10. The inside of the palette contains ten different hues of golden and silver in square pans each. There is a dual ended sponge applicator as well but I prefer to use my Sigma E55 brush.
The MUA Going For Gold is an all metallic eye shadow palette. The texture of the eye shadows is soft and they are thus easy to apply and blend. There is almost nonexistent fall out in the pan with only one or two troublesome shades. The pigmentation, too, is good except for shades 1 and 6. The lasting power of the eye shadows is decent with over 4 hours of wear time even for poorly pigmented ones. Since the eye shadows are all metallic, they budge easily without a base and I would recommend the use of a primer unless you are okay with a glitter smeared face. Below, I have discussed the shades individually as well for your convenience:
Shade 1: The color is difficult for me to describe but I have read fellow bloggers describing it as a sand like color. It has a medium to high buildable coverage and unlike shade 6 it does not need an eye shadow base or a primer to bring out its color. But since it has a soft texture,a primer ensures that it does not budge easily. I love to use it for highlighting my cheeks.
Shade 2: A charcoal grey with good pigmentation.
Shade 3: A bronze eye shadow with good pigmentation but was prone to pan fall out.
Shade 4: A silver with chunky glitter that is prone to fall out. You have to pack the eye shadow to avoid that. Use a primer for the eye shadow's better adhesion to skin.
Shade 5: A mustard with exceptional pigmentation. Shade 6: A light grey with a more satiny finish than metallic. It has a very light pigmentation and would work better with a primer. Use a white base for maximum coverage.
Shade 7: A champagne color again with good pigmentation.
Shade 8: It is a deep gold with yellow tones that can be used to highlight medium to brown skin tones if a light hand is used.
Shade 9: A copper color with buildable coverage.
Shade 10: A dark grey metallic eye shadow over a frosted finish. Since it had chunky glitter, it was prone to fall out and needed to be packed together or used with a primer.
To sum it all up, MUA Going For Gold Eyeshadow Palette is a very good purchase in terms of its economical price and good color pay off with minimum fallout and decent staying power.
